Interstate 490 is a highway that forms a horseshoe off of the north side of the Thruway (I-90) to connect Rochester to the Thruway. It is just under 40 miles long. 490 passes right through Downtown Rochester, where it passes over the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge (formerly Troup-Howell Bridge) spanning the Genesee River.

On the very east of the city limit, 490 passes through the complex Can of Worms interchange where it meets Interstate 590 and Route 96.
