Cortland is a city of about 20,000 people located in the Eastern Finger Lakes Region, South of Skaneateles Lake, between Syracuse and Binghamton. Cortland is known as "Crown City" because it is located on a plain formed by the convergance of seven valleys; it's elevation is 1,330 feet. Cortland is located on Interstate 81. Cortland is home to the former truck maker Brockway, which was taken over by Mack in 1956 and which lasted until 1977. Every year Cortland hosts an annual show of Brockway trucks. SUNY Cortland is a four year school of about 7,000 students located in the city.
