Downtown Rochester is the central business district of Rochester, a larger city north of the Finger Lakes Region. It contains many business and cultural institutions, and is even going through somewhat of a residential rejuvenation, with infill development and even a conversion of the top floors of the Chase Tower to condominiums, where the office market is not strong. Downtown has a variety of nightlife, which the East End area is specifically known for, with places such as Tilt Nightclub. High Falls is a scenic area of the Genesee River which cuts through downtown.
The Amtrak Empire Corridor (Empire Service, Lakeshore Limited, Maple Leaf) has a stop in downtown on the CSX mainline Rochester Subdivision. 490 passes right through downtown via the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge over the Genesee River.
